A Conversation between you and me
A conversation between you and me is a concertina folding booklet about the conversations between me and my cat Horlik. The concept is by thinking and seeing things from a cat’s perspective, responding to my personal thoughts. The booklet was produced during a period of time when I seriously suffered from anxiety disorder, and one of the aims of it is to comfort my anxieties by pretending my cat is here, here to talk to me and encourage me.
8 Illustrations of viola are placed all over and throughout the whole booklet. The symbolisms of viola followers are pure love and loyalty, which I think connects to the relationship between me and my cat. The flowers are illustrated in different ways and the audience will spot the change of it by reading the whole book. The flowers transform from really sharp, vibrant graphics to really blurry images. This actually refers to the sight of humans and cats, in which humans can see things clearly while cats see things in a blurry way.
The transformation also implies the communication and gradual understandings between each other. The contents are written and designed in a poetic format, so it looks like a book full of poems. During the production period, a lot of research have been done to support the writings. Knowing how cat’s feel, cats’ emotions, and cat’s vision help me think of a way of responding when writing my cat’s part.
